Free Attack Surface Reviews for North East Charities

If you're a North East based charity, you could be eligible for a free cyber security attack surface review. Read on to find out about our new community initiative to make charities safer and how to apply.

At Sencode, we’re offering registered charities in the North East free attack surface reviews to assess their security posture, plus 20% off any of our cyber security services. This is the first part of our community initiative, Secure the North East.

Why we’re focusing on charities.

Charities look after sensitive donor details, payment information and records about some of the most vulnerable people in our communities. Many charities have tight budgets, with no dedicated IT team and very little time to think about cyber security. Yet they are no less likely to be the victims of a sophisticated attack than anyone else.

Cyber criminals know this. The Government’s latest Cyber Security Breaches Survey found that 28% of UK charities, around 57,000 organisations, experienced a cyber breach or attack in the past year. Yet only 7% have ever had any penetration testing, and the share of charities who see cyber security as a high priority has fallen from 68% to 60%.

That’s a gap our industry can help close, and this is our contribution.

What is an attack surface review?

An attack surface review looks at your charity from the outside, the way an attacker would. We check:

  • Your websites, domains and subdomains, including old or forgotten ones
  • Exposed services and remote-access points that shouldn’t be public
  • Email security settings (SPF, DKIM and DMARC) that stop criminals from sending emails in your name
  • Public-facing software that’s out of date or has known vulnerabilities

You get a short, plain-English report listing what we found and what to fix first in a language you can understand. That way trustees can see where the real risks are and where to spend limited budget.
